Northwest Asmat War Shield, Possibly Tjemor, Upper Undir River, Papua New Guinea. Carved and engraved hardwood and natural pigment. Mid-20th century which is old for Asmat shields. Large tear drop shaped shield reminiscent of Upper Unir River, but with interesting pattern with stylized eyes. Head carved at top of shield. Traces of pigment. Approx L185 x 52cm.
